A-600 Resurfacer Gray Texture Concrete

Description

This specification includes the repair and resurfacing
methods used when applying Americrete products over
cracked, spalled, deteriorated structures. This method of
repair will create a slip resistant surface designed for
heavy foot traffic and vehicular traffic. This Americrete
system can repair the substrate to leave a new broom or
smooth concrete finish.

Caution

It is imperative that the structure that is to be repaired be
structurally sound. Deteriorated, cracked or spalled
concrete should be repaired. Americrete recommends
that all structural concrete substrates be tested for
structural integrity and chemical contamination prior to
application of any surfacing materials.
Preparation of surface
Americrete will bond to properly cleaned and porous
concrete surfaces. Mechanical or chemical abrasion may
be necessary in order to achieve the proper profile. Profile
means that the concrete should feel rough, like 80-100 grit
sandpaper.

Existing Coated Floors

All existing coatings, sealers, curing agents and other
foreign materials must be removed by shot blast or
grinding equipment in order to reveal clean concrete.

Cleaning

If oil or greasy spots are present clean by scrubbing the
surface with A-100 Degreaser. Broom A-100 Degreaser
evenly over the entire surface. Allow the degreaser to
remain on the surface for approximately 30 minutes. Do a
final clean with TSP cleaner to insure A-100 is totally
removed. Power wash surface with a 3000 to 4000 psi
machine. Read A-100 Degreaser Specifications for full
details.

Vapor Transmition:

The surface should be tested to assure
that the vapor transmission is below 3.5 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft.
This can be measured by using a Calcium Chloride test kit.
Follow directions on the test kit.
A-6300 penetrating Vapor seal epoxy can be used to
control moisture vapor and add adhesion by broadcasting
skidtex or 30 grit silica sand into the wet epoxy
Refer to technical data sheet A-6300.

Surface Repairs

Small repairs and cracks require pre-filling. Large spalls
and cracks should be pre-filled prior to resurfacing using
Americrete Crack Repair Procedure.
Americrete does not guarantee that the cracks will not
appear at a later date.

Surface Leveling

Low areas, surface voids and other irregularities that
cannot be repaired using a thin coat application may be
repaired using this leveling procedure prior to resurfacing.
Prime surface with A-300. Apply A-600 Concrete
Resurfacer mixed with 6 to 6 1/2 quarts of water per bag,
for any areas from 1/8” or 3/8”. For deeper areas A-900
may be necessary. See A-900 specification sheet.

Thin Set Overlay

Upon completion of repairs, the surface shall be overlaid
with a minimum of 2 squeegee applications of A-600
Concrete Resurfacer. The objective is to apply 2 thin
applications without creating a heavy build-up of material
and without creating any significant dead load on the
structure. The surface that is being coated shall be kept damp at all
times during the application process by using a light spray
of water. Do not let water puddle.

Directions

Mix 6 to 8 quarts water to one bag of A-600. Squeegee at
the rate of 250 square feet per mix.

The A-600 Concrete Resurfacer mixture shall be poured in
windrows and spread immediately with squeegees over
the surface. Pour the material along three outside edges
and pull the material, spreading out the A-600 as you
follow the poured edges. Continue pulling the material
following the edges and wind your way increasingly
inward. Leave no ridges or excess material behind as
you spread out the A-600. Should material run out, apply a
light spray of water at the end of the windrow and feather
the edge, using a squeegee. When adding new material
to the damp windrow, first re-dampen the edge to insure
the bond between the new material and old. If you go over
any expansion joints, take a damp brush and wipe out
excess material and place it in front of your squeegee
work.

After the surface is dry remove any ridges or
irregularities from the application using a floor scraper
before applying the second coat. Mix the A-600 as
described above and apply the second application when
the first coat is thoroughly dry. Normally 2 applications
can be installed in 1 day if the surface is an exterior
surface exposed to full sunlight. Surfaces without full
sunlight will require an overnight cure between
applications.

Americrete 600 Resurfacing Specification 6-22-2015 LM

The finished surface:

can be a smooth or broom finish. For
a broom finish use a concrete” horse” hair broom or a
medium to soft hair push broom and drag the broom
backwards through the squeegeed 2nd coat of the A-600.
Do this immediately after the 2nd coat is spread out.
DO NOT cover any expansion joints. Brush out expansion
joints during the squeegee process. After the A-600 is dry
clean out expansion joints with a straight blade on an angle
grinder for a clean look. Finish with an appropriate joint sealer.
Seal surface with two coats of the appropriate Americrete
sealer.

Americrete Flex Mesh

Although Americrete products have a small measure of
flexibility, structural or moving cracks may reappear as
hairline cracks. Years of field experience in the repair of
cracked surfaces have proven that embedding the A-1600
Flex Mesh into A-600 Concrete Resurfacer over cracks
will substantially reduce re-cracking over structural
surfaces, on or above grade.
